A jury has found a 28-year-old Trinidad man guilty of raping a woman after a night out. The horrific incident took place in Bournemouth in the early hours of June 14 this year.

The victim was able to record most of the sexual assault on her phone, according to the Bournemouth Echo. The woman had been out with friends in Bournemouth Pleasure Gardens, where she met Chret Callender. At the end of the night she returned home in a taxi, only for the defendant to turn up at her door.

According to the prosecution, Callender asked for some "loving" and went on to overpower the woman, after she rejected his initial advances.

In the phone recording, she can be heard crying and telling her assailant: "I have said no, please stop."

Callender then tells her to "shut up" and "have some respect for me", before saying: "Why are you crying? You're making me feel like I'm raping you."

After the attack, he apologies to the woman and admits that he had "f...ed up."

Russell Pyne, prosecuting, told Bournemouth Crown Court: "[The complainant] had been concerned about this defendant's apparent drunkenness and determination and she had the presence of mind to record what was going on in the bedroom between her and him.

"In those recordings you can hear the build up to the rape, the rape itself and then the aftermath. As the recordings go on she's becoming increasingly upset and then crying. There's sections with the defendant appearing to apologise for what he has just done."

Callender denied raping the woman, but admitted trying to pressure her into having sex with him. However, he insisted he stopped when she refused and that she subsequently faked the attack.

At the time of the incident, Callender was living at an asylum hotel in Bournemouth, while waiting to hear whether he would be granted permission to stay in the UK. His application was ultimately rejected.

The jury found him guilty of rape and sexual assault after almost five hours of deliberations and he will sentenced on January 22.
