On Friday the Assam Cricket Association banned four players leg-spinner Amit Sinha Ishan Ahmed Aman Tripathi and wicketkeeper Abhishek Thakuri. They were banned over their suspected role in corruption during the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The ACA has also registered an FIR with the state polices Crime Branch against these players all of whom have played for Assam at different levels. They are charged with trying to manipulate and persuade certain Assam players who took part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. After the allegations surfaced the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit of the BCCI conducted an enquiry. The ACA has also initiated criminal proceedings. Prima facie there appears to be their involvement in serious misconduct affecting the integrity of the sport said Sanatan Das the ACA secretary. Assams SMAT league games took place in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8 but the team did not qualify for the current Super League stage. They have been suspended to prevent any further deterioration of the situation. The suspension will continue until the investigations outcome and/or any further decision of the Association Das added. While suspended these players are not allowed to take part in any state-level games or tournaments run by the ACA its district bodies or connected clubs. They are also banned from doing any cricket-related work such as being coaches umpires or match referees during the suspension. Das said that all district associations have been told to strictly follow this order and to notify the clubs and academies under them about the ACAs decision. (With PTI Inputs)
