Nandamuri Balakrishna is back on the big screen with the highly anticipated action drama Akhanda 2 directed by Boyapati Sreenu. The film released in theatres on Friday (December 12) in five languages Telugu Tamil Hindi Kannada and Malayalam promising fans another high-octane outing after the success of the original Akhanda. While critics and sections of the audience responded with mixed to negative reviews the movie still managed a respectable opening day at the box office demonstrating Balakrishna’s enduring pull.
How much did Akhanda 2 earn on day 1?
According to early estimates reported by Sacnilk Akhanda 2 raked in around Rs 30 crore on its first day across all versions. This figure includes Rs 8 crore from paid previews for the Telugu version on Thursday followed by Rs 22 crore on Friday itself.
Heres the language-wise breakdown:
Telugu: Rs 29.5 crore
Hindi: Rs 1 lakh
Kannada: Rs 4 lakh
Tamil: Rs 35 lakh
Malayalam: Rs 1 lakh
While the Telugu version accounted for the bulk of earnings the film’s performance in other languages remained modest reflecting its regional strength.
About Akhanda 2
Akhanda 2 continues the legacy of its predecessor blending action drama and Balakrishna’s trademark charisma. Produced as a high-budget mass entertainer it stars Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role alongside a supporting cast that includes Srikanth Navdeep Sreeleela and Arjun Rampal among others. The original Akhanda released in December 2021 became a massive hit for its larger-than-life storytelling and punchy dialogues and Akhanda 2 was expected to capture the same energy.
Like the first part the sequel mixes intense action with themes of justice retribution and family emotions. The film hit screens exactly four years after the original riding on the anticipation built through trailers and music.
Even though Akhanda 2 delivered the familiar masala elements fans expect from a Balakrishna–Boyapati collaboration critics pointed out issues with pacing predictability and a script that leaned heavily on formulaic beats. Some viewers praised the action choreography and Balakrishna’s screen presence while others felt the narrative lacked freshness.
Can word of mouth change its fortunes?
Despite early criticism Akhanda 2 still outshone Balakrishna’s recent release Daaku Maharaaj on opening day proving that his fan base remains loyal. As weekend footfalls grow and word of mouth spreads the film may yet turn into a stronger box office contender. With festival season crowds still heading to theatres Akhanda 2 could see a steady pickup in the coming days.
