Taking a big and well-planned action against cyber fraud in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, the police conducted simultaneous raids in four villages of Govardhan area, Devrasaras, Manusaras, Daulatpur and Nagla Tatiya. In this action taken on Thursday (December 11), 42 people were detained, out of which eight already have criminal records registered against them. Police say that the method of cyber fraud operated from these villages is similar to the infamous Jamtara model of Jharkhand.

About 300 policemen were deployed in this big operation. The action was led by 4 DSPs, 4 Circle Officers and 26 Inspectors. According to Mathura Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat, the police were receiving repeated complaints of cyber fraud from these four villages of Govardhan area, in which people were being cheated through phone calls.

SP (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat said, “An operation was planned and the 300-member police team was divided into two parts under the leadership of 4 additional SPs, 4 circle officers and 26 police inspectors. The search operation was started at 5 am on Thursday by sealing the entry and exit routes of four villages Deorasaras, Manusaras, Daulatpur and Nagla Tatiya of Govardhan area.”

He further said, “A total of 42 people were detained in the day-long operation, of which eight have criminal history. Cyber police teams and local police forces are continuing the search with necessary equipment to trace the mobile phones and SIM cards being used in cyber fraud.”

According to police, swindlers calling from these villages would often ask people to download files, then share credit card and bank account information. Initial investigation has revealed that a large number of mobile phones and SIM cards were being used for fraud.

During the search, police seized a large amount of incriminating material including mobile phones, SIM cards and Aadhaar cards. Forensic examination of the seized SIM cards is being done and it is also being ascertained whether fake identity cards were used.

Police officials say that the purpose of this action is not only to make arrests but to break the entire cyber fraud network from its roots. The investigating agencies are now trying to find out which states or international networks could be connected to this racket. Mathura Police has indicated that further arrests may be made based on the investigation.
