Indian star fast bowler Mohammad Siraj He was very close to taking a hat-trick, but the DRS system, which was partially implemented for the first time for the Super League in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2025), snatched this golden opportunity from him. However, in this match, Siraj bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets.

A surprising sight was seen in the Super League round of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 on Friday (December 12). In the match played between Hyderabad and Mumbai, Mohammed Siraj, playing for Hyderabad, had almost achieved a hat-trick, but the DRS system, partially implemented for the first time in the tournament, stopped him from making a big record.

In this match, Mumbai team, batting first, was limited to only 131 runs. For Hyderabad, Siraj bowled with amazing line-length from the beginning and ruined the condition of Mumbai by taking 3 wickets in just 3.4 overs. Siraj was very close to taking a wicket even on a hat-trick ball.

On the 5th more hat-trick ball of the 17th over, Siraj’s ball hit straight on the pad. The entire team including the Indian pacer was sure that it was a clean out, but the umpire did not raise a finger. Hyderabad immediately adopted DRS, but here came to light the biggest flaw of this partially implemented DRS system – ball tracking was not available.

The third umpire had to take the decision only on the basis of slow-motion and replays, in which he kept the on-field umpire’s decision by guessing. The result was that Siraj’s dream of a hat-trick was shattered there. This partially implemented DRS system will remain in force in all SMAT Super League matches.

Talking about the match, Mumbai performed very poorly while batting first. Yashasvi Jaiswal (29 in 20 balls) and the rest of the batsmen could not even touch the 30-run mark. Players like Ajinkya Rahane (9), Sarfaraz Khan (5) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (4) also flopped. Hardik Tamore (29) and Suryansh Shedge (28) certainly gave some support to the team by making a partnership of 45 runs, but Mumbai was all out for 131 in front of Hyderabad’s bowling.

For Hyderabad, Siraj took 3/17, while Milind and Tanay Thiagarajan took 2-2 wickets.

While chasing the target, Hyderabad’s openers made the match one-sided. Tanmay Agarwal scored 75 runs in 40 balls, which included 7 fours and 4 sixes. Along with him, Aman Rao also took the Mumbai bowlers seriously by scoring 52* runs. Together they made a brilliant opening partnership of 127 runs and Hyderabad registered an easy victory by 9 wickets in just 11.2 overs.

Mumbai’s bowling also looked scattered. Captain Shardul Thakur gave away 24 runs in just 1 over. Tushar Deshpande got the only wicket for the team.
