One such similar tale is of Akshaye Khanna who recently created buzz for his impeccable performance in Dhurandhar. Besides him taking over the headlines conversations around his legendary father the late actor Vinod Khanna have also been creating a buzz. From leaving behind superstardom to embracing spirituality Vinod Khanna’s life choices have long intrigued fans. Now interviews with the Khanna family have been going viral. Akshaye Khanna recalls his father’s life-altering decision In an old interview Akshaye Khanna spoke candidly about the emotional impact of his father leaving everything behind. He said “To not only leave his family but to take ‘sanyaas’ (renunciation). Sanyaas means giving up your life in totality-family is a part of it. It’s a life-changing decision which he felt that he needed to take at the time. As a five-year-old it was impossible to understand it.” Reflecting on Vinod Khanna’s inner journey Akshaye added “Something must have moved him so deeply inside that he felt that that kind of decision was worth it for him. Especially when you have everything in life. A very basic fault line/earthquake has to occur within oneself to make that decision. But also stick by it.” He further stated “One can make the decision and say this doesn’t suit me-let’s go back. But that didn’t happen.” Why Vinod Khanna returned to India When asked why he believed his father eventually returned to his family and career Akshaye said “From whatever memories I have about my father talking about that time in his life I don’t think that was a reason at all just the fact that the commune was disbanded and destroyed and everybody had to find their own way. That’s when he came back. Otherwise I don’t think he would’ve ever come back.” Vinod Khanna had taken sanyaas in 1982 and joined Osho’s ashram in Oregon USA. He returned to India around 1985 and resumed acting until he died in 2017. Kavita Khanna on Vinod Khanna’s spiritual phase and bond with Akshaye Khanna Speaking about that period Vinod Khannas second wife Kavita Khanna also revealed that Vinod Khanna’s decision was deeply personal. She shared that he went to Osho’s ashram after his mother’s death and added “He (Vinod Khanna) wasn’t expecting to become a member of Parliament. There was a lot of work in process when he died.” Kavita also opened up about her bond with Akshaye Khanna. She said “It was passion and love. We were in sync with each other. It was a perfect marriage with all its flaws.” Vinod Khanna was first married to Geetanjali Khanna in 1971; later the duo got divorced in 1985 the same period when he left films to follow Osho’s teachings. He later married Kavita Khanna.
