A disciplined bowling effort led by all-rounder Kanishk Chouhan and pacer Deepesh Devendran helped India secure a convincing 90-run win over Pakistan in their Group A match of the Under-19 Asia Cup on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first India scored a competitive 240 all out in 46.1 overs powered by a fluent 85 from Aaron George and valuable contributions from captain Ayush Mhatre (38) and Chouhan (46). Pakistan struggled in response being bowled out for 150 in 41.2 overs and never recovering from early setbacks while chasing 241.
India began strongly with Mhatre hitting four boundaries and three sixes in his quick 25-ball innings before Mohammad Sayyam removed both openers within the first 10 overs. George then anchored the innings finding gaps consistently while Chouhan’s late assault including three sixes pushed India past 230 despite regular wicket losses.
For Pakistan Sayyam (3/67) and Abdul Subhan (3/42) were the pick of the bowlers with Niqab Shafiq taking two wickets.
Pakistan’s chase collapsed early as they slumped to 30 for four with Devendran claiming three quick wickets in his opening spell. Captain Farhan Yousaf (23) and Huzaifa Ahsan tried to rebuild the innings but Chouhan’s sharp off-spin ended their resistance. Ahsan top-scored with 70 off 83 balls but lacked support from the other end.
Chouhan finished with 3 for 33 while Devendran took 3 for 16 as India maintained control throughout to record a dominant win in the high-profile Group A clash.
The teams did not shake hands at the toss or after the match following the ‘no-handshake’ protocol seen in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025 where the Indian men’s team also refused to receive the winner’s trophy from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
