Vi’s new insurance plans are priced at Rs 61 (30 days), Rs 201 (180 days), and Rs 251 (365 days). Each plan offers coverage of up to Rs 25,000 for handset loss or theft, along with additional data benefits.
Vi said the aim is to make device protection more accessible by integrating insurance with regular prepaid recharges. The company noted that this approach helps reduce high upfront premiums and offers users a simplified, digital claims process that requires minimal paperwork.
According to a May 2025 report from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, around 85.5% of Indian households own at least one smartphone. Industry estimates show the handset insurance market is expected to reach $2.6 billion this year, with the cost of replacing a mid-range phone typically ranging between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000.
Vi said the new offering supports its broader effort to expand value-added services in the prepaid segment. Other products under this strategy include Hero Unlimited plans, Super Hero plans with 12-hour unlimited data, and NonStop Hero plans offering 24-hour unlimited data with no daily limit.
