New Delhi: Once again a clash between two Asian T20 leagues is on the horizon. In 2026 the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be played concurrently intensifying the battle for fans broadcasters and international players.
PSL 11 Dates Announced
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced the window for PSL 11 during a roadshow in New York. He stated that the tournament will be played from March 26 to May 3 2026. This timeframe directly clashes with the proposed window for IPL 2026 which is scheduled from March 15 to May 31.
Leagues Clashing for the Second Consecutive Year
This is not the first time the IPL and PSL have clashed. In 2025 the PSL was also shifted to the April–May slot resulting in both leagues running simultaneously. Now with a complete season overlap confirmed for 2026 the competition has become even more intense.
Impact on Availability of Foreign Players
The simultaneous running of both leagues makes it challenging for the PSL to attract big international names. Players with IPL contracts typically prioritize that league leaving the PSL facing direct competition every week.
PSLs Strategy and the Entry of Big Names
The PSL has adopted an aggressive strategy to strengthen its global presence. The New York roadshow was part of this effort. Interestingly players like Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali have opted for the PSL skipping the IPL 2026 auction. Meanwhile David Warner who went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction joined the PSL and was appointed captain of the Karachi Kings. For these players playing in the PSL means a more assured role and consistent opportunities.
