Couple convinced hidden room in new home is haunted until they see what's inside

When you're searching for a new house, it's important that you thoroughly inspect the properties you view to make sure there are no surprises when you eventually pick one and move in. Checking for signs of damp or mould, making sure the windows don't need replacing, and ensuring the lights all work correctly are vital before closing a deal on a house.

But there are some things you can't check until you've put an offer in and received important paperwork, such as a floor plan or the land registry information. And, for one couple, something took them completely by surprise until they moved into their new home and started to renovate it.

In a video on TikTok, the couple said they'd recently moved into a home that was built in the 1930s. The home had some drywall that they wanted to get rid of so they could expose the natural brick, but when they began peeling it away, they found something astonishing.

The couple, known as Goldenberry online, found a door that they claim "no one knew existed". They insisted the door wasn't mentioned when they were buying the house, and they don't believe the previous owner knew it was there either.

And, although they were convinced the door must be "haunted", they decided to open it anyway, and were gobsmacked by what the door was concealing.

A second video shows the moment the couple managed to get the door open, after much effort as it was wedged shut thanks to decades of not being used, and had no handle.

Behind the door, however, was not the creepy haunted room they had expected to find. Instead, the couple were treated to the sight of an extra bathroom that had been locked away for years.

In the caption, they wrote: "Everyone expecting a haunted room ... it's a bathroom, besties. We were scared s******s - and honestly shocked to find a whole second bathroom back there, because the previous owners literally plastered over the old door. So no, the house isn't haunted ... just cursed with questionable carpentry."

The couple later discovered that their upstairs bathroom is directly above this newly discovered room, and after removing one of the ceiling panels, they found that the floorboards above were rotting away, and their bathtub was at risk of falling into the previously sealed-off room.

They added: "We were one bubble bath away from a Final Destination-level chain reaction."

The couple have not provided a new update, but they are likely planning to fix the issue with the floorboards so they can keep their bath from falling through the floor. It's also unclear how they will renovate the newly discovered room, or if they intend to keep it sealed off.

Commenters on the videos have claimed the room must have been sealed for a reason, and urged the couple not to interfere with it, as they're still convinced it must be haunted.

One person said: "There was a reason that the bathroom was covered."

Another added: "The true crime in me feels like something happened in that bathroom, and that's why they sealed it off."

A third posted: "Something is up with that bathroom. Nobody boards up a perfectly usable bathroom for no reason."
