Year Ender 2025: The year 2025 was like a roller coaster ride for the Indian cricket team, where on one hand the team celebrated a historic victory, while on the other hand it faced disappointment in Test cricket. India won the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup this year. This year will be remembered for many ups and downs, new leadership and the announcement of retirement of some stalwarts.
The year started with a big bang for the Indian team. India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title for a record third time. India achieved this distinction by defeating New Zealand in the final match played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in UAE.
Following the Champions Trophy win, the Indian team continued its dominance in the ODI format, winning 11 out of 14 matches under three different captains throughout the year. The Champions Trophy victory under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma was the biggest moment in this format.
In contrast to the success of the Champions Trophy, Team India’s performance in Test cricket did not live up to expectations and the year was disappointing. In 2025, the team played a total of 10 test matches, out of which it won only 4, while it lost 5 matches and 1 match was a draw.
The year started with a disappointing defeat on the Australia tour, where the team lost the series 3–1. After this, it was an achievement to draw the Test series played against England 2-2 at home. The year ended with a historic defeat against South Africa, where the team suffered a 2–0 clean sweep.
The performance of the Indian team in T20 cricket was excellent. India won the Asia Cup after a strong series win against England. In Asia Cup 2025, the Indian team won 6 matches and did not suffer a single defeat. Defeated arch-rival Pakistan in the final match. After this, Australia was defeated in the T20 series. Currently the team is playing a 5-match T20 series against South Africa, in which it has taken a lead of 2-1.
This year was also the year for some of the biggest stars of Indian cricket to say goodbye to international cricket, this year many big names said goodbye to cricket. Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, Varun Aaron and Piyush Chawla announced their retirement from all formats of cricket. At the same time, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma said goodbye to Test and R Ashwin to IPL.
