Malayalam dubbing artist and activist Bhagyalakshmi has publicly criticised actor Mohanlal for sharing the poster of Bha Bha Ba a film in which he appears alongside Dileep. The post has sparked strong reactions online and in the Malayalam film industry as Dileep was recently acquitted in the 2017 actor assault case a high-profile controversy that shook the community. What did Bhagyalakshmi say? Speaking at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) Bhagyalakshmi described Mohanlal’s actions as “insensitive” and “thoughtless.” She questioned “Did Mohanlal even pause for a moment before sharing that poster?” and added “When someone with that kind of influence does this what message is being sent to survivors?” Her remarks highlight concerns over accountability and ethics in public endorsements especially when it involves individuals connected to controversial legal cases. Bhagyalakshmi emphasised that endorsing films or actors is not just about cinema but also about the moral responsibility of public figures. “This is not about cinema alone anymore. This is about ethics. It is about what we choose to endorse publicly” she said. About Dileep controversy In the 2017 actress assault case actor Dileep was accused of being the mastermind behind the crime. He was arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy and other offenses allegedly hiring a gang to assault the actress. After an eight-year-long trial the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court acquitted Dileep of all charges on December 8 2025 due to a lack of evidence for the conspiracy charge. The other six accused were convicted. The verdict caused significant controversy with the Kerala government planning to appeal the acquittal in the High Court.
