Geyser Tips: Proper care tips in winter

As soon as the winter season arrives, many people start using their geysers. If you have recently noticed that your geyser is taking longer to heat water, there could be several reasons behind it. The geyser is not only running slower, but it may also be consuming more electricity.

This condition means that your geyser needs some care and maintenance. Before calling a technician or buying a new geyser, here are 5 easy tips that will not only help your geyser heat water quickly but also save electricity.

Heating element cleaning or replacement

The heating element is the most important part of the geyser which needs cleaning or replacement from time to time. Hard water causes deposits of minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, which hinder heat transfer. Due to this, the geyser takes more time to heat water and electricity consumption increases.

Cleaning the inner tank (descaling)

Minerals in the water accumulate over time in the geyser’s tank, forming a layer. This layer acts like an insulator and does not allow the water to heat properly. If scale accumulates excessively, the risk of the tank rusting and leaking also increases. Therefore, it is important to get the tank descaled by a technician during servicing.

Checking Thermostat Settings

The job of the thermostat is to determine how much heat the water will reach. Many people, in order to save electricity, reduce the setting of the thermostat too low, due to which it takes more time to heat the water. It is better to set it between 50°C to 60°C.

use the correct power supply

Geysers require stable voltage to function properly. If the voltage drops below 200 volts, there may be problems heating the water and other parts may get damaged. Use a good quality stabilizer so that the voltage remains stable.

correct water pressure

Many times the problem is not in the geyser but in the flow of water. Due to low water pressure, the tank fills slowly, which takes time to heat up. Clean any dirt stuck in pipes or pressure valves and ensure regular water supply. If the problem still persists, get it checked by a plumber.
