Tata Chairman Chandrasekaran meets CM Yogi, Proposes transformative AI City to boost UP tech growth

Chairman N. Chandrasekaran of Tata Sons on Monday in Lucknow held a high-level meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Monday to talk about investment expansion and multi-sector cooperation in the state. The two main subjects that came up during the meeting were an ‘AI City’ plan for the state capital along with an action plan for several years in different fields including defence manufacturing energy information technology and skill development.
According to the statement the proposed AI City plan would make Lucknow (and the rest of Uttar Pradesh) a global centre for artificial intelligence innovation and future technologies. This development is likely to anchor and accelerate the state’s startup ecosystem as well as create thousands of new jobs in AI data science cyber security and next-generation computing by attracting talent both from within and outside the country.
The CEO of Tata Sons and the Chief Minister examined the development of the projects currently in process as well as the chance to work together in the long run in fields like artificial intelligence IT electronics defence manufacturing renewable energy electric vehicles tourism and the digital economy among others.
The two sides emphasised the importance of building an environment in which business and industry can flourish focusing on innovation growth and employment creation. Both sides agreed to continue working closely to drive industrial and infrastructure development across the country as well as to improve employment prospects for the state’s citizens.
Other proposals discussed at the meeting include the construction of an Rs 48-crore Centre of Excellence in Gorakhpur which will provide youth with advanced technical training and new employment prospects in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjacent areas. The Centre is intended to help build a skilled and industry-ready workforce in upcoming technology fields.
In addition Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) operations expansion plans were also discussed in Lucknow with the Chief Minister with Tata Group proposing to increase the manpower at their key units in Lucknow and Noida to 30000 members thus opening up a wealth of opportunities in the state for digital technology and IT service talent.
In addition to digital technology and IT services the Tata Group has also expressed an interest in investing more in the state in manufacturing and renewable energy as well as in areas such as electronics manufacturing electric vehicles and other infrastructure development that are aligned with the state government’s initiatives.
Chief Minister Adityanath also promised to continue to work with the Tata Group and offered a stable and positive policy environment that will be friendly to investors and offer significant growth potential in Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Minister also said that the state’s partnership with the Tata Group would encourage Uttar Pradesh’s mission to become a trillion-dollar economy while also creating job opportunities and making the state a leader in new technology.
