As dense fog continues to blanket large parts of North India, road safety has become a major concern. In recent days, several serious accidents have been reported. On Tuesday morning, a major collision involving seven buses and three cars on the Yamuna Expressway led to buses catching fire, leaving at least four people dead and over 25 injured.

Amid these incidents, spiritual leaders have recalled an age-old belief linked to a verse from the Ramcharitmanas, which devotees traditionally recite before starting a journey for protection and safety.

Bageshwar Dham’s head priest, Dhirendra Shastri, popularly known as Baba Bageshwar, has advised drivers and travelers to recite the following couplet before leaving home or boarding a vehicle:

“Chalat Viman Kolahal Hoi,
Jai Raghubir Kahai Sab Koi.”

According to Baba Bageshwar, devotees believe that chanting this couplet before traveling helps avert misfortune and invokes the protection of Lord Hanuman during the journey.

Jagadguru Swami Sandipani explains that this verse comes from the Lanka Kand of the Ramcharitmanas. After defeating Ravana, Lord Shri Ram boarded the Pushpak Viman along with Mata Sita, Lakshman, and others. As the divine aircraft moved, it created a loud sound, and people began chanting “Jai Raghubir.” The couplet describes this moment and is considered a symbol of victory, protection, and divine grace.

Swami Sandipani adds that many devotees regard this verse as a protective mantra, believing it helps eliminate negative energies and ensures a safe and smooth journey.

Astrologically, Chitra Nakshatra ended on Monday, December 15, at 11:09 am, after which Swati Nakshatra began and will continue until Tuesday, December 16, at 2:09 pm. According to astrologers, traveling during Swati Nakshatra is not considered inauspicious. Ruled by Rahu, this nakshatra is often associated with movement, freedom, and change, and is believed to support successful travel—provided other unfavorable dates or directions are avoided.
