IIT Madras Exit Option With BSc Degree: You can leave IIT after 3 years

IIT Madras has provided a major relief to BTech students by introducing an exit option. Now, students who want to leave their engineering studies for any reason or are facing difficulties in completing their degree will have the option to exit the course after 3 years with a BSc degree. For this, students will have to complete at least 250 credits out of a total of 400.

Students admitted in the 2024 batch will start receiving the benefit of this IIT facility from 2027. IIT Madras has also decided that senior students will also get this option from this academic session. However, before choosing the BSc degree, it will be mandatory for students to attempt to complete the BTech degree at least once.

According to reports, the institute is also working on a plan to offer BSc degrees with specialization in the future. However, determining the required score will be entirely under the purview of the department. Each department will decide how many core credits will be mandatory for a particular specialization. According to experts, this BSc degree will open new avenues for higher education for students. Students can pursue an MBA or prepare for the civil services examination. NEP 2020: Efforts to make education more flexible under the New Education Policy

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has implemented a multiple entry and exit system. Under this system, degree courses have been made more flexible; students can drop out of college after two or three years and will receive a certificate based on their scores. Receiving an Advanced Diploma after two years, a regular Bachelor's Degree after three years, and an Honors or Honors with Research degree after four years of study could bring about a major change in the field of education. Now, an institution like IIT is also implementing such a rule, under which students can exit after three years and receive a BSc degree.
