New Delhi:With the change in weather in winter, many health problems start troubling us. Cold, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath are common in these seasons. In such situations, traditional home remedies often prove to be more effective than medicines. One of these is Ginger Halwa, which can be easily eaten by children as well as elderly people. It is not only a delicious sweet but is also helpful in increasing immunity and keeping the lungs healthy.
Ginger Halwa is an old-time recipe, which grandmothers started making in winters. It can be prepared and kept safe for 3-4 days. Ginger and other ingredients used in making halwa are of hot nature and keep the body warm naturally in winters.
1. 150 grams ginger (finely grated)
2. Half teaspoon dry ginger powder
3. 1 cup jaggery (coarsely chopped)
4. Half cup powdered sugar (caster sugar)
5. 1 tsp green cardamom powder
6. 3 tbsp desi ghee
7. 8-10 pistachios finely chopped
8. 8-10 almonds finely chopped
9. 1 cup wheat flour
10. 15-16 date seeds finely chopped
11. 1 cup freshly grated coconut
1. Prepare the syrup
Pour 4.5-5 cups of water in a deep pan. Add jaggery and sugar to it and boil it. Add dry ginger powder and cardamom powder and mix well. Cook it until the jaggery and sugar dissolve completely.
2. Roast Ginger
Put 2 spoons of ghee in a thick bottom pan and fry grated ginger in it. Fry it and take it out in a separate plate.
3. Roast the flour
Fry the wheat flour in the remaining ghee on low flame until it turns golden. Add roasted ginger, dates, pistachios and almonds and mix.
4. Mix syrup and cook
Add prepared jaggery-sugar syrup to the mixture and cook on low flame for 2 minutes. If halwa seems sticky then you can add 1 teaspoon ghee. Finally garnish with cardamom powder and pistachios.
Ginger is a herb rich in antioxidants. Its regular consumption provides relief from cold-cough, nausea, high blood sugar, improvement in digestion, period pain and cramps. It is also helpful in weight loss and keeps the body warm in winter.
