Taking a significant step in the semiconductor industry, India has unveiled its first indigenous 64-bit dual-core microprocessor *DHRUV64*. This chip, which has been developed by C-DAC, not only reflects the technological capability but also highlights India’s commitment to reduce its dependence on foreign countries. With a speed of 1.0 GHz, this processor can provide a new direction to the digital future of the country.
*DHRUV64* has been developed under the Microprocessor Development Program of India, the main objective of which is to promote domestic chip design. It is completely developed by Indian engineers and designed for areas where fast and reliable processing is required. This achievement gives India a new identity on the global semiconductor map.
*DHRUV64* is based on an advanced 64-bit dual-core architecture, capable of handling multitasking and complex computing tasks effectively. The clock speed of 1.0 GHz makes it energy efficient, while its design ensures simple coordination with various hardware systems. This processor is ideal for applications where both performance and stability are required.
The *DHRUV64* is a processor designed for areas where fast, secure and reliable processing is required. India accounts for about 20% of the total global microprocessor consumption, but even here there was dependence on imports. The development of *DHRUV64* is an important initiative towards reducing this dependency and increasing the efficiency of domestic chip design. This strengthens the country’s technological sovereignty and secures the supply chain for the future digital infrastructure.
*DHRUV64* is a new name in the list of microprocessors developed in India. Before this, processors like *SHAKTI*, *AJIT*, *VIKRAM* and *THEJAS64* have been developed. Now C-DAC is working on *RISC-V*-based next generation SoC- *Dhanush+* and *Dhanush+*, which will provide India with more indigenous options in the coming years. This visit can become an important step in making India technologically self-reliant.
