National badminton : The Chennupati Ramakotaiah Municipal Corporation (CHRMC) Indoor Stadium in Patamata is getting ready for the 87th Senior National Badminton Championship, which will take place in Vijayawada from December 22 to 28.

In this regard, the stadium was inspected on Tuesday by engineering officials from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), Vice Chairman and Managing Director S Bharani, Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association (APBA) Secretary Dr P Ankamma Chowdary, and Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu.

After a ten-year break, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has awarded the seven-day tournament to the AP Badminton Association. The CHRMC Indoor Stadium, which is undergoing renovations by the VMC at a cost of more than Rs 1 crore to match national requirements, will host the competition.

The tournament is likely to be made more prestigious by the participation of a number of elite shuttlers, including Olympic champion PV Sindhu, international stars Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen, and other notable players.

Officials were told to make sure everything was perfect since Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan are expected to attend the tournament. Speaking at the event, Ravi Naidu emphasized the work being done to improve sports facilities by Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohana Rao and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, also known as Chinni. There were representatives from VMC engineering, Krishna District Badminton Association Secretary MSN Prasad, SAAP Director Santosh, and others.
