Nothing beats kicking off the morning with the sound of bacon crackling away in the pan, yet all too often it ends up either charred or limp when not prepared correctly. Everyone craves that perfect crispy bacon, but countless home cooks fall into the trap of drowning it in oil or leaving it on the heat far too long in pursuit of that ideal crunch.

However, Barbara Curry, the cooking enthusiast behind Butter & Baggage, has shared a superior recipe for achieving crispy bacon perfection: giving it a light dusting of flour beforehand. Barbara explained: "I was a little sceptical about how adding flour to the bacon would make that much difference, but just wait until you taste bacon that has been floured first. It's not only crispy but doesn't have that burnt taste you get sometimes when trying to get your bacon extra crispy."

Whilst it might sound straightforward, applying a thin layer of flour to bacon works wonders by soaking up excess moisture as the fat melts away.

This technique ensures the bacon crisps beautifully during cooking whilst developing a gorgeous golden hue that makes it utterly irresistible.

The flour also acts as a grease absorber whilst the bacon sizzles, dramatically cutting down on those annoying oil spits and splatters across your hob.

Your bacon will boast superior flavour as the flour cuts through the greasiness whilst delivering that coveted crispy texture without requiring lashings of oil or extended cooking times.

For this method, simply pop it into a frying pan over medium heat on the hob. Cook for four minutes, and it should come out perfect without any mess or excess grease.

You can fry your bacon in a frying pan as usual and achieve excellent results for a few rashers, but Barbara also suggests giving oven-baking a go if you've got extra time and are cooking more bacon.

Barbara explained: "I still cook bacon on the stove when I just need a few pieces, but when I'm serving breakfast for four or more, I'm making it in the oven." Simply heat your oven to 200C and line a baking tray with foil to make washing up a doddle.

Arrange your bacon rashers on the tray and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. The timing varies depending on the thickness of your bacon, so keep an eye on it at the 10-minute mark. When the bacon is done, transfer it to some kitchen roll to soak up any excess fat.
