Australia is actually competing in the third Test of the Ashes series at Adelaide, and rather notably, their captain of the first two matches, Steve Smith, has been forbidden to play in this match. In fact, the inner ear trouble that Steve Smith has experienced has caused dizziness and nausea which in turn caused him to be absent during the match.

On Wednesday morning, Steve Smith left the ground just twenty minutes before the toss and Usman Khawaja was then once more in the batting order at No. 4. This very shocking turn of events has astonished the fans of both England and Australia cricket as just a day before the match, the Australian team had been announced with Smith in the line-up.

The dizziness of Smith started early Monday morning.

It is worth mentioning that Steve Smith has had nausea and dizziness symptoms since the start of this week which made him miss not only the practice session but also the nets on Monday.

Smith, however, on Wednesday was also present in the nets trying to bat, but after discussing with coach Andrew McDonald and the captain, Smith was told to leave the park.

“He was here and he gave it a try this morning; however, he didn’t think he would make it to this one, so he is going home, (we’re) pretty lucky we got someone like Usman who can step right in,” Pat Cummins quoted at the toss.

Importantly, the Australian veteran had previously experienced vestibular and inner ear problems and thus was not a risk to be included in the Australia’s Playing XI.

Still, this is Usman Khawaja’s return at the last minute, as he was the one who got initially chopped from Australia’s playing XI for the Adelaide Test.

Australia’s revised playing XI: Travis Head, Jake Weatherald, Marnus Labuschagne, Usman Khawaja, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Josh Inglis, Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland
