State-owned telecom company BSNL has taken a significant step for its customers by launching its in-house mobile app, ‘Sanchar Mitra’. The company launched the app nationwide on Friday. This app has been developed for the registration of new customers and the issuance of SIM cards.
A key feature of this app is that it is entirely indigenous. This means the app has been completely developed by BSNL engineers.
What is the Sanchar Mitra app?
The Sanchar Mitra app replaces the previously used Sanchar Aadhaar app. The Sanchar Aadhaar app was used to connect new customers to the BSNL network through Aadhaar-based e-KYC. This app was developed by a private company and used by BSNL retailers and franchisees.
However, BSNL's contract with that private company ended at the end of November 2025. This led to disruptions in the process of issuing new SIM cards and replacement SIMs. To address these problems, BSNL has now developed its own app called Sanchar Mitra.
The Sanchar Mitra app is completely indigenous.
According to BSNL, the Sanchar Mitra app was developed in a very short time by BSNL engineers across the country. It can be said that this app was developed in a kind of emergency situation to quickly resolve the problems faced by customers.
This app has been rolled out across India, including Karnataka. BSNL has stated that this is an indigenous app, eliminating the need to depend on foreign companies. This indigenous app will also reduce the possibility of any future problems.
What are the benefits for you?
As far as customer benefits are concerned, the Sanchar Mitra app will make the registration process for new customers faster and easier. This will allow customers to get SIM cards more quickly, and tasks such as SIM replacement and KYC will be completed without any interruptions. Furthermore, since this app is completely indigenous and developed by BSNL itself, data security and control will remain in the company's hands. Overall, the Communication Mitra app will improve BSNL's services, and customers will also benefit from it.
