Noida: Unity Statue In Noida, sculptor Ram Sutar dies at the age of 100 and is given a guard of honor

Noida: Ram Sutar, the renowned sculptor, is no longer with us. Late on a Wednesday evening, he passed away at his Noida home. Anil Sutar, his son, verified the information. Ram Sutar, who turned 100 this year, relocated to Delhi from his Maharashtra village 67 years ago.

He will receive a Guard of Honor on Thursday, according to the announcement. The “Statue of Unity” in Gujarat, the highest statue in the world, was designed by Sutar. Additionally, he created the famous sculptures of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on a horse and Mahatma Gandhi in a meditative stance, both of which are housed in the Parliament complex. He received a gold award from Mumbai’s JJ School of Art and Architecture.

He was recently given the Maharashtra Bhushan Award by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on November 14, 2025.

On February 19, 1925, Ram Sutar was born in Godhra, Gujarat. He produced several well-known sculptures over his remarkable career.

Among his most well-known creations are:

monument of Unity: Standing 182 meters tall and dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, this monument is the tallest in the world.

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj: He also designed the statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, which stands 100 feet tall at Moshi, Pune.

Doctor Babasaheb Ambedkar: He produced a number of sculptures of Dr. Ambedkar, notably the one that is housed in Mumbai’s Chaityabhoomi.

Mahatma Gandhi: Sutar created more than 350 sculptures of Gandhi that are erected all over the world.

Lord Shiva: Another of his greatest works is the 153-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva in Bengaluru.

Ram Sutar was awarded the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan, among other honors, for his efforts, according to NDTV India. In 2019, he also received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian accolade.
