Google Meet’s new system audio sharing feature: Google Meet has solved an old problem of users with its recent update. Until now, during a meeting or presentation, users were only able to share sound from a browser tab. Now in this new update, Google Meet has removed this limitation. Through this, users will be able to share the sound of the entire system. This feature will benefit most users who include video in presentations, live demos, or use multiple apps simultaneously. This will definitely make virtual meetings more effective and seamless, making sound problems during presentations a history.
Google Meet has introduced a new update called “Also Share System Audio”, which helps in sharing the sound of any platform playing on the presenter’s screen to the entire team. Previously when sharing a screen, only the audio from a single Chrome tab could be shared. This caused a lot of inconvenience in meetings and online classes. Now this new update eliminates this problem, allowing presenters to now share the sound of the entire system.
This new feature is activated when a user makes a window or full screen presentation on Google Meet. Once you turn on system audio sharing, Google Meet captures every sound coming from your device, whether it’s a music player, a video file, or a third-party app. This option is off by default, so it needs to be turned on each time before starting a presentation. If you forget this, the audio will not be shared.
Google has started implementing this update for Rapid Release domains first. The feature is expected to be available to other users by early 2026. As the update rolls out, it will also reach standard Google Workspace accounts.
This new system audio sharing feature of Google Meet is currently available only on certain platforms. This is for users who have macOS 14.02 or newer or Windows 11 devices. Additionally, Google Chrome browser version 142 or newer is also required to share system audio. However, users who have special audio setups will still be able to share audio from Chrome tabs only.
