The Supreme Court of India has granted additional time for the recruitment of teachers in the state. The court has extended the deadline for the SSC teacher recruitment process, allowing eligible teachers to receive their salaries until August 31. Education Minister Bratya Basu expressed his satisfaction with the Supreme Court's decision, which he shared on social media shortly after the ruling. He noted that the court's significant decision regarding the recruitment of teachers for grades 9-10 and 11-12 is a testament to the effective guidance of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. During this extended period, former teachers will continue to work as they have been.

The bench led by Justice Sanjay Kumar made it clear that the West Bengal Central School Service Commission is progressing towards transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.

Previously, the Supreme Court had mandated that the recruitment process should be completed by December 31. Until then, qualified teachers would be able to teach in schools and receive their salaries. However, the state government, along with the SSC and the Secondary Education Board, filed a petition to extend this deadline. In response to that petition, the Supreme Court took action. Lawyer Kalyan Banerjee stated that the recruitment process was ongoing at both the state and board levels, and they are nearing completion. The final results for the selection process for grades 11 and 12 will be published on January 7, with counseling starting on January 15. The selection process for grades 9 and 10 will conclude by mid-March, followed by counseling.
