Yuzvendra Chahal did not say when he would be fit to play again but the leg-spinner hopes to return during the Vijay Hazare Trophy which starts on December 24. He has not been selected for India since last years T20 World Cup and has not played for the senior national team since August 2023.
The experienced leg-spinner went to England to play county cricket and the One-Day Cup for Northamptonshire. He took six wickets in six matches while keeping his economy rate below six runs an over. Chahal also performed well in red-ball cricket taking 12 wickets in three matches including one five-wicket haul in Division Two of the County Championship.
These strong performances showed his ability to adjust to different formats and helped him earn a place with Northamptonshire for a third consecutive season proving his value to the team.
Northamptonshire head coach Darren Lehmann called Chahal a key player for the team
Yuzi is a magnificent asset to this squad. His record across his career speaks for itself and he brings so much class and experience to the group. I loved working with him this year and am excited to go again in 2026.
For young spinners in the group like Nirvan Ramesh and Stuart van der Merwe having Yuzi around to guide them will be a huge plus for their game Darren Lehmann added.
