Made-in-India cars are making waves in the world. India has set a new record for car exports in FY2026. Let us find out which countries are exporting the most Indian cars.
Indian cars become a global favorite
Indian-made cars are now establishing a strong presence not only in the country but also globally. Demand for Made-in-India cars is steadily increasing, and this is directly reflected in car export figures. In the first eight months of the current fiscal year (FY2026), India has set a new record for car exports. During this period, more cars were shipped from India to other countries than ever before, significantly boosting the auto sector.
Car exports touch new highs in FY2026.
- According to SIAM data, approximately 599,276 passenger vehicles were exported from India in the first eight months of FY2026. This represents a nearly 20 percent increase compared to the same period last year. In FY2025, 498,763 vehicles were exported between April and November, representing a direct increase of approximately 100,000 units. This clearly demonstrates that Indian cars are becoming increasingly popular in the global market.
Auto sector reaches very close to a record
- FY2026 is still four months away, and at the current pace, it's believed this year could achieve the highest-ever car exports. In FY2025, a total of 770,364 passenger vehicles were exported. Significantly, three times this fiscal year, more than 80,000 cars were shipped abroad in a single month. The September, October, and November figures clearly demonstrate this strength.
Mexico's tariffs raise concerns.
- It's worth noting that amidst this success, a challenge has also emerged. Mexico has announced that import duties on Indian-made cars will be increased from 20 percent to 50 percent, effective January 1, 2026. Mexico is a major export market for India. In FY2024, India shipped approximately 194,000 cars and SUVs to Mexico, representing a significant portion of its total exports.
Which companies' cars go to Mexico?
- Maruti Suzuki exports thousands of cars to Mexico every year, including the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, and Brezza. Hyundai also ships cars like the Grand i10, Aura, Venue, and Creta. Volkswagen Group and Nissan India also sell significant numbers of vehicles in Mexico.
What does this record mean for India?
- The growing demand for Made-in-India cars proves that India is not only a large market but also a strong manufacturing hub. If challenges like tariffs are addressed properly, India could create new history in car exports in the future.
