Unstable weather conditions are set to continue in the UAE on Friday, December 18, as the low-pressure system that has been affecting the region moves westward, covering more parts of the country.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain brought by convective clouds over the western and coastal regions of the UAE — including Fujairah. Strong winds are expected to cause blowing dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility.

The alert is in place until 4pm on Friday.

The authority added that lightning, thunder and hail are expected in some parts of the country, and different regions of the UAE would face rainfall of varying intensities.

Temperatures are set to decrease significantly, according to the met department. The mercury will range between 17ºC and 22ºC in Abu Dhabi, 16ºC and 23ºC in Dubai, and 15ºC and 21ºC in Sharjah.

Moderate to strong winds, with speeds that can reach up to 85km/h, will blow from the Southeast to the Northwest. The sea will be rough to very rough at times in the Arabian Gulf, and rough in the Oman Sea.
