Emily in Paris 5 Rating: 3/5
Emily in Paris is back with another season, and as everyone knows, things have gotten messier but also interesting as the show moves to Rome. While Emily is still figuring things out with Marcello, there’s Alfie and Mindy, and on the other hand, there’s Sylvie, Antoine, among others.
I binged-watched season 5 on Netflix, and here’s my honest review of the Netflix show.
Too many parallel tracks are going on

Emily in Paris s5 encompasses a little too many things all at once, and while we've gotten around the tracks and the subplots revolving around all the people involved, this time, it feels slightly rushed. Nonetheless, one of the finer aspects of this season is the way it's not just surface-level anymore for Emily's character, even when everything else feels chaotic. The setting moving to Rome also makes way for a rather fresh (sort of) vibe to the show.
While we know it kinda defeats the purpose of the title, the fact is that things were bound to happen a certain way sooner or later, but so much happening is only hinting towards one predictable outcome - Emily will end up with Gabriel as the one true love of her life. However, how things get there is what'll be interesting to see, especially since things seem to have moved around some more.
Performances work with old friends and new faces

Lily Collins as Emily continues to lead the way for the show, and it is her classic charm, along with the optimism she shares rather interesting. While it's time for her to make rather bold choices for her life, both for growth and love, it's all things lovable, emotional, as well as alive. While there are moments where it feels like things are going over the top, it's pretty much what the show demands in more ways than one.
Ashley Park as Mindy continues to be a treat to watch, and at the same time, she's also got a stronger character arc this time to explore. Sure, not many might approve of her decisions in the show, but it is one of the more fun to watch subplots.
Minnie Driver’s Princess Jane, Eugenio Franceschini as Marcello, Lucien Laviscount as Alfie and other regulars in the cast do well. While Minnie brings a rather fresh kind of story to the show, Eugenio is also as charming as ever, and they obviously look like fabulous additions to this season.
Does it still have the charm?
Darren Star Productions, MTV Entertainment Studios, and Jax Media
We now have two new cities in the mix of things with Rome and Venice, and that sure serves as a fun shift of scenery; there's a lot of debate around it. Meanwhile, the fashion and the vibe continue to be just as relevant and as aesthetic as ever - a major theme in the show. Sure, this season tries to prove once again, everyone's hearts are in the right place, but then comes the climax, and that's got everyone questioning quite a lot of things.
Talk about the charm of the show, and it's there, but then you know, there are all those will they/won't they moments that often make you wonder in what direction the show is headed, often making you wonder as a viewer as to why they wouldn't explore other storylines too.
Our verdict on Emily in Paris season 5
Darren Star Productions, MTV Entertainment Studios, and Jax Media
Agreed, chick flicks like Emily in Paris are a guilty-watch, and they most definitely don't need to constantly reinvent to be likeable or even loved, for that matter. However, it does continue to be the same old mix of fashion, complicated love lives and friendships, and a rather huge cross-cultural chaos.
Would you love it? Sure, if you've been a fan of the show, but is it anything groundbreaking? Well, no, and it doesn't even try to do so, which is why, even though it gets predictable, you want to see more of it. All in all, this show is a good escapist rom-com, and it does a good job at being that!
