Vinod Khannas family dynamics were often the talk of the town. Married twice and father to four children Khanna’s family life was frequently discussed among audiences as news. In a recent interaction his second wife Kavita Khanna shared rare insights into how she balanced her place in a blended family while respecting emotional boundaries.
Kavita Khanna on Being a Stepmother
Kavita Vinods second wife spoke about her role in the family. Vinod was earlier married to Geetanjali Khanna in 1971 and the couple had two sons—Akshaye Khanna and Rahul Khanna. However over time when Vinods involvement with spiritual leader Osho increased his marriage with Geetanjali was dissolved.
Later in 1990 Vinod tied the knot again this time with Kavita. The couple had two daughters Sakshi and Shraddha Khanna.
During an interview with Loveena Tandon Kavita addressed her relationship with Vinod’s sons from his first marriage:
They were mine because they were Vinod’s children. They had to be mine but they were not mine she explained emphasizing that she never tried to fill the role of their mother.
According to Kavita Rahul and Akshaye already had “the best mother they could have” so she made a conscious effort not to interfere with that bond.

Contrary to popular belief that relations between first and second wives often go sour Kavita described her relationship with Geetanjali as respectful and uncomplicated. She stressed that there was no bitterness between them—only mutual respect clear boundaries and understanding.
