New Delhi. The Indian Army is all set to procure 850 Kamikaze drones, which will be used for the three defense forces and special forces. The Indian Army’s proposal is now close to getting approval. Defense sources told ANI that it is likely to be approved in the high-level meeting to be held in the last week of this month. As per the proposal to be implemented under fast-track processes, the Army will get around 850 Loitering Munitions with launchers from indigenous sources.
The Indian Army uses a large number of loitering munitions obtained from various sources. Now it is planned to induct about 30 thousand such weapons to equip all its combat units in the near future. The Army’s infantry battalions will each have an Ashwini platoon, which will be responsible for operating drones against enemy targets and also in internal security roles.
Use of drones in Operation Sindoor
The Army used drones extensively to target terrorist headquarters inside Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. India destroyed 7 out of 9 terrorist hideouts on the very first day of the operation, which was carried out in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Later, drones were also used against the Pakistani Army, which came forward to strongly defend the terrorists. Casualties in the military actions were high and enemy infrastructure along the borders was heavily damaged.
