The new year is just 10 days away, and it's set to bring several changes that will impact your finances. These include changes related to banking, Aadhaar, LPG gas, and petrol and diesel prices, among others. One significant potential change concerns your mobile bill. It is anticipated that mobile tariffs could become up to 20% more expensive in the new year. This is according to an estimate by the market research firm Morgan Stanley.

According to the Morgan Stanley research report on mobile tariffs, in the new year 2026, the prepaid and postpaid recharge plans of Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone Idea could all become up to 20% more expensive.

Why might recharges become more expensive in the new year?
According to the report, Indian telecom companies aim to increase their ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) in 2026. To achieve this, companies may increase tariffs by 16 to 20 percent. This has become a pattern for these companies. In July 2024, the companies also decided to hike tariffs, after which recharge plans became more expensive.

How much more expensive will Airtel plans become?
No official announcement has been made regarding which company will increase tariffs by how much. However, various estimates are being made. It is being suggested that Airtel's 28-day unlimited 5G plan, which currently costs Rs 319, could increase to Rs 419.

How much will Jio's monthly plan cost?
It is being said that Jio's Rs 299 plan with 1.5 GB of daily data could cost up to Rs 359.  The 28-day 5G plan, currently priced at Rs 349, could increase to Rs 429 after the price hike. If this happens, it will put a greater burden on your monthly budget. How much more will Vi plans cost?
If Vodafone Idea also decides to increase tariffs, this decision will increase users' expenses. If this happens, Vi's 28-day 1GB daily data plan could increase from Rs 340 to Rs 419.  Similarly, the 2GB daily data plan with a validity of 56 days (approximately 2 months) could cost Rs 699 instead of Rs 579. Other plans will also be affected.
