UP Police: As part of a campaign to identify illegal immigrants, police have conducted door-to-door verification at a colony of Muzaffarnagar riot victims in Kairana town in Shamli district, authorities said on Saturday.
The verification process took place on Friday at Nahid Colony, where some 300 households from villages including Lank, Bahawdi, and Phugana that were uprooted after the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots were relocated, according to authorities.
Police examined people’ Aadhaar cards, cellphone numbers, and family information throughout the exercise.
The verification was intended to identify any unlawful Rohingya or Bangladeshi nationals, but no such individual has been located as of yet, Circle Officer (Kairana) Hemant Kumar informed reporters.
According to Noor Hasan, a colony resident, every family in the community has already completed and sent in their Special Intensive Revision (SIR) papers to the booth level officer (BLO) in Kairana.
According to sources, police in the nearby Muzaffarnagar district have also stepped up their verification efforts in industrial regions, concentrating on laborers employed in factories.
According to Circle Officer Siddharth Mishra, police teams examined employee records at a number of the district’s steel and paper businesses.
He stated that factory owners have been instructed to keep registers with all of their employees’ personal information.
According to authorities, the verification campaigns are a component of a larger initiative to guarantee accurate paperwork and identify any undocumented immigrants.
A series of intercommunal conflicts in Muzaffarnagar, western Uttar Pradesh, in 2013 resulted in over 60 fatalities and thousands of displaced persons, mostly from the district’s rural districts.
