Tess Daly issued an apology to a "fuming" Claudia Winkleman on the final of Strictly Come Dancing. In their final ever show together, on Saturday evening, Tess looked horrified to learn that her co-star wanted to perform a showdance with her.
The host had been appreciating the dances seen on the show so far when the announcer's voice boomed: "Dancing the showdance, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman." The presenter looked completely baffled as she asked: "Wait, what?" Claudia suddenly appeared at the side of her co-host, wearing a silly hat that looked like a fruit and floral arrangement. She grinned cheekily as she said: "Tess, it's time..." But Tess awkwardly laughed before admitting that she was "just joking" about doing a showdance together tonight. "It was a joke?" asked Claudia, seemingly annoyed, before quickly whipping the silly hat from her head. "Excuse me, one minute," she huffed before storming off away from Tess.
he crowd erupted into a loud "aww" as Tess looked sad for a moment before pressing on with her presenting duties.
The camera then panned out to show Claudia with her professional backing dancers, dressed in bright pink suits with hats that matched. "Guys, it was a joke," she told them. "Hats down."
With moody faces, the pros dropped their headwear and looked defeated as Claudia added: "Apparently tonight it's all about the finalists!"
Tonight is Tess and Claudia's final show together as they both announced that they would be leaving partway through the series. There has been a lot of speculation about who will replace them in future series, but the BBC are yet to confirm any names.
However, former professional and spin-off show presenter Janette Manrara may have accidentally let slip who it could be.
Appearing on BBC Breakfast just hours before the live show, Janette dropped a huge hint that she could be landing the role as she was grilled by Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt.
Naga asked her if she had " thrown her dancing shoes in the ring" to take over, to which Janette replied: "I think right now, all I do know is that all of our producers, the incredible exec, Sarah James, they're really, really focusing on this series, on these contestants, giving a proper goodbye to Tess and Claudia, and for the finalists to just have the best, best night."
