December January Bank Holidays: If you have an account in any bank and you are thinking of doing any important work to the bank in the remaining days of the month of December, then first check the list of holidays falling between 22nd to 31st December, because at the end of the month, banks are going to be closed on different days in many states. Apart from this, there are going to be a lot of bank holidays in the month of January also. This includes Makar Sankranti, Republic Day, weekly holiday Sunday along with second and fourth Saturday. Due to bank holidays in December and January, many banking work including check book and pass book may be affected, however online services will continue so that you can do other work. When and where will banks be closed between 22 December and 26 January?

  • 22 December- Banks will remain closed in Sikkim due to Losung festival.
  • 24 December- Banks will remain closed due to Christmas Eve (Meghalaya, Mizoram).
  • 25th December – Thursday – There will be a bank holiday in most of the states due to Christmas.
  • December 26- Banks will remain closed in Aizawl, Kohima, Shillong due to Christmas celebrations.
  • 27 December- Christmas/Fourth Saturday/Kohima
  • 28th December- Sunday, all banks will remain closed due to weekly holiday.
  • December 31 – Wednesday New Year’s Eve / Imoinu Iratpa Banks will remain closed in Aizawl, Imphal.
  • January 4- All banks will remain closed due to weekly holiday (Sunday).
  • 10 January 2026- 2nd Saturday
  • January 11: All banks will remain closed due to weekly holiday.
  • All banks will remain closed on January 18 due to weekly holiday (Sunday).
  • 24th January Fourth Saturday
  • All banks will remain closed on 25th January due to weekly holiday (Sunday).
  • Banks across the country will remain closed on Monday, January 26 due to Republic Day.

Banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturday of every month.

  • In India, banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, while they remain open on the first, third and fifth Saturdays. Every Sunday there is a holiday in banks due to weekly holiday.
  • Apart from this, there is no work in banks during festivals. Bank holidays in India include national holidays (gazetted holidays) and government holidays (state/central).
  • Keep in mind that state government holidays vary from state to state, whereas central government holidays remain the same throughout the country. Also regional holidays are to a particular state or region. Just because a day is a holiday in one state does not mean that it will be a holiday in another state too.

  • ATM USE: ATMs are always available to withdraw money, check balance and get mini statements. You can also use facilities like cardless cash withdrawal in ATM.
