Gandhinagar: Lion safari has been started in the Barada Dungar range near Porbandar, Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka district. If we talk about the Barada Dungar forest, it is a different kind of forest from the Gir and Girnar forests and is a unique experience to enjoy. On the auspicious day of Labh Panchma, ‘Barada Jungle Safari’ Phase-1 has been inaugurated by Forest and Environment Minister Mulubhai Berara at Kapuri check post of Devbhoomi Dwarka. The diverse habitat of Barda Wildlife Sanctuary supports 368 plant species, which include 59 tree, 83 herb, 200 insect and 26 vine species. Whereas among 368 species of plants, the proportion of plants is the highest at 54 percent. After that, there are 23 percent plants, 16 percent trees and 9 percent plants. Among the plants, Rayan is one of the most important species of Barda. This sanctuary is home to a total of 22 mammalian species, which, apart from lion, include leopard, wild cat, jackal, noliyo, jackal, lonkadi and jackal. Apart from this, the sanctuary is also home to animals like deer, saber, chittal, nilgai and wild buffalo. This sanctuary contains 269 species of birds.
