A mum has called out her son's now ex-girlfriend for breaking up with him 'right before Christmas' - however, a lot of people are calling her out for her unreasonable demand.

It's not easy seeing your childrengo through the downs of living their own lives, such as getting dumped by long-term partners. This is what one mum in question is currently going though, as she took to Mumsnet's'Am I being unreasonable' forum to ask if it would be possible to 'talk some sense' into her son's ex-girlfriendafter she broke up with him in the days leading up to Christmas.

In her post, the mum explained that her son had been dumped 'out of the blue' by his girlfriend of three years because he hadn't proposed yet, and seemingly had no intentions to do so in the near future.

  • 'My daughter, 7, was horrible at Xmas so I hatched extreme plan to get her back'
  • 'Best origin superhero film ever' airs on ITV tonight

"He's absolutely devastated, as far as he was concerned they were very happy together," she explained.

She continued by explaining that the girlfriend had asked the son a few months prior about whether or not he wanted to marry her, to which he said that of course he wanted to, but later in the future, and refused to give her a rough timeline when she asked about when she could expect the proposalto happen.

The mum said: "He told her he wasn't doing any of that silly timeline stuff and he would do it when the time was right. She was upset at the time, but it was left at that."

However, a few months later, the girlfriend sat down with her partner and broke it off - as the son was getting ready for a Christmas party.

"Just before Christmas which I think is very cruel," the mum said, clearly not happy with the girlfriend's decision. "I wouldn't have thought she could be so cold."

She went on to say that the girlfriend's best friend had just gotten out of a relationship and was now single, which the mum said might have 'pushed her' to break it off with her son.

"I now have a devastated son at my house not knowing what to do," the mum added, saying he'd been living in the girlfriend's apartment so now didn't have anywhere else to live.

The mum ended her post by asking if it would be unreasonable if she went to contact her son's ex-girlfriend to 'talk some sense' into her. However, several other people people urged her not to do it, as they claimed it would, indeed, be unreasonable.

"You are being EXTREMELY UNREASONABLE!" one person wrote, while another user said: "“Talk some sense into her”? Are you serious?"

A third person said: "Perhaps he could have shown some consideration for his future life partner when she expressed her needs/desires and then he wouldn’t be in this situation."

"Stay out of it. You most likely don't know all the ins and outs of it, and what good will speaking to her do, are you hoping to emotionally blackmail her into taking him back? Support your son but accept that the relationship is over," someone else said.

In the accompanying poll on the post, 97% of 6969 voters claimed the mum was being unreasonable - what do you think?
