New Delhi: Former Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra has dismissed the rumours circulating about MS Dhoni which claim that his career was negatively impacted by Dhonis captaincy. In a podcast Mishra clarified that he never blamed Dhoni but instead credited him for his return to international cricket.
Amit Mishras response to allegations against Dhoni
Speaking on the MensXP YouTube channel Amit Mishra said that it is completely wrong to say that his career would have been better if Dhoni hadnt been the captain. According to him without Dhoni he probably wouldnt have even got the opportunity to play for Team India.
Career comeback under Dhonis captaincy
Mishra revealed that his return to the Indian team was possible only under Dhonis leadership. As captain Dhoni showed faith in him and gave him the opportunity to play international cricket again.
International career and achievements
Amit Mishra made his debut in ODIs in 2003 Tests in 2008 and T20 Internationals in 2010. He played 22 Tests 36 ODIs and 10 T20 matches for India taking 76 64 and 16 wickets respectively.
Dhonis support on the field
Recalling his last ODI match against New Zealand Mishra mentioned that he took five wickets for 18 runs thanks to Dhonis advice. He said that Dhoni always encouraged him to bowl naturally with confidence.
Retirement from cricket and IPL journey
Amit Mishra retired from all formats of cricket in September 2025. He played 162 matches in the IPL and took 174 wickets. He is among the select few bowlers to have taken three hat-tricks in the IPL.
