An innovative Indian developer has created “WhatsNot”, an AI-powered tool that summarizes long WhatsApp messages without triggering the blue tick. The tool can also detect the tone of the message—urgent, angry, or casual—helping users gauge their boss’s mood.
In today’s fast-paced digital world, workplace messaging can become overwhelming, especially with constant WhatsApp messages from managers. To tackle this, the developer, who shared the project on Reddit’s r/developersIndia forum, designed WhatsNot to help professionals manage messages efficiently while avoiding the pressure of immediate replies.
Why WhatsNot Stands Out
The most remarkable feature of WhatsNot is that the sender remains unaware that the message has been read. The tool condenses long messages into concise, clear summaries, making them easier to digest. It also interprets the tone of each message, distinguishing between critical, accidental, or angry notes—effectively giving users insight into the sender’s mood.
How WhatsNot Works
Instead of opening WhatsApp directly, the tool reads incoming messages via a dedicated system. When a new message arrives, it is copied and sent to an AI model for analysis. Built on a Node.js service using the Baileys open-source library, WhatsNot monitors WhatsApp messages in real time.
The messages are then sent through a simple HTTP server to a free Groq Large Language Model API, which generates a short and easy-to-understand summary. This summary is displayed on a small interface, allowing the user to read messages without opening WhatsApp. Since the chat isn’t opened, the blue tick remains hidden. The device also features a touch sensor to refresh or scroll through longer summaries conveniently.
Not a Commercial Product
The developer emphasizes that WhatsNot is not a commercial product. Instead, it is a practical—and slightly humorous—solution to managing modern workplace communication efficiently.
