The farmers are the pride and honor of the nation; every person in the country depends on them in some way. Farmers endure rain, sun, heat, and dust to grow food. The respect they deserve is immeasurable. That is why today, December 23rd, is celebrated as Farmers' Day, in honor of our former Prime Minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh, on his birth anniversary.

Chaudhary Charan Singh dedicated his entire life to the farmers, working tirelessly for their upliftment and development. He left no stone unturned in making farmers the central focus of the country, which is why Farmers' Day is celebrated on his birth anniversary. Acknowledging its debt to the farmers, the central government has also launched several schemes for their honor and development, which have proven to be a boon for them. Let's look at some of the major schemes that have helped in the development of farmers.

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi
When talking about major schemes for farmers, the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme comes to mind first. Millions of farmers are benefiting from this scheme. The 21st installment was transferred by the Prime Minister himself to the accounts of 9 crore farmers on Wednesday, November 19th. This scheme is considered one of the world's largest cash transfer programs. Under this scheme, Rs. 6000 is sent annually to the accounts of eligible farmers.

PM Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana
For the future of small and marginal farmers in the country, the central government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to elderly farmers, i.e., those above 60 years of age, by giving them a pension. This allows farmers to live comfortably after a certain age. Farmers between the ages of 18 and 40 can join this scheme. Under the scheme, security can be obtained by making a very small contribution (Rs. 55 to 200 per month). Farmers enrolled in the scheme will receive a pension of Rs. 3000.

Kisan Credit Card Scheme.
The Kisan Credit Card scheme was launched to protect farmers from the clutches of moneylenders by providing them with access to credit at affordable interest rates.  The Kisan Credit Card was introduced in 1998 for this purpose. Farmers can use this card to purchase agricultural inputs. Through this card, farmers can instantly avail loans up to ₹3 lakh from the government at a subsidized interest rate of 1.5%.

PM Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme)
Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, farmers receive insurance coverage against crop losses at a premium of 2 to 5 percent. The remaining amount is paid by the government. This scheme has proven effective in stabilizing farmers' income in case of crop failure due to natural calamities, pest attacks, and other reasons. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to farmers and encourages them to adopt new technologies.

PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana (Prime Minister's Wealth and Grain Agriculture Scheme)
This scheme has benefited 1.7 crore farmers. The Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana is designed to provide farmers with the benefits of 36 schemes simultaneously. It focuses on developing 100 backward districts. The scheme encourages farmers to increase crop storage capacity and also improves irrigation facilities.
