NEET UG 2026: The NEET UG exam is conducted every year for admission to various undergraduate medical courses, including MBBS and BDS. In 2025, this exam was held on May 4th. NEET UG 2026 is also likely to be held in May. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to start the registration process in the first week of February. This exam is very important for students pursuing medical studies. So, let's understand why coaching has become essential for a better score in NEET UG.

The NEET UG exam is for a total of 720 marks, with 180 multiple-choice questions (Physics, Chemistry, Biology). Candidates get 4 marks for each correct answer, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. Candidates who have passed their 12th grade in the Biology stream or are appearing for their board exams this year can appear for NEET UG 2026.

Approximately 20 Candidates for Every Seat
Every year, more than 20 lakh candidates from across the country appear for the NEET UG exam. There are approximately 1,26,600 MBBS seats in the country, spread across all government and private medical colleges. This means there are about 20 candidates for every seat, making the competition very tough. Even a single mark can significantly change the ranking.

Why is Coaching Essential for a Better Score?
Tricky and multi-concept questions are formed from a single concept, which are asked in the exam. Coaching institutes explain how many types of questions can be formed from each topic and how to approach them. This makes it easier for candidates to prepare. In addition, coaching institutes set daily and weekly targets and provide chapter-wise preparation.

Preparation through Mock Tests and Practice Tests
According to experts, coaching institutes focus more on preparation through mock tests and practice series. This helps candidates identify their weak areas. This allows candidates to focus more on the topics in which they are weak.

Experts also say that it's not necessary for students to rely on coaching to clear the NEET UG exam. With the right guidance, good preparation, and mock tests, candidates can pass the exam without coaching. Every year, many candidates crack the exam without any coaching. However, more than half of the candidates who appear for the exam take coaching for preparation.
