New Delhi: The Indian women’s team registered a comfortable 7-wicket victory against the Sri Lankan women’s team with a brilliant performance. The bowlers first restricted the opposition batters with accurate line and length and then Shafali Verma’s explosive innings ensured the target was chased down in very few overs. The match was completely dominated by India who proved their superiority in every department.
Sri Lanka’s faltering batting
After winning the toss and electing to bat first the Sri Lankan women’s team could only manage 128 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Chamari Atapattu (31) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (33) showed some resistance but they couldn’t build any significant partnerships against the Indian bowlers. Regular wickets kept Sri Lanka under pressure.
Disciplined performance by Indian bowlers
For India Sneh Rana bowled a tight spell conceding only 11 runs in 4 overs and taking one wicket. Shree Charani and Vaishnavi Sharma also picked up two wickets each. India also displayed sharp fielding with crucial run-outs further weakening Sri Lanka’s innings.
Shafali Verma’s aggressive approach
Chasing a target of 129 runs the Indian team got off to a quick start. Shafali Verma adopted an aggressive approach from the beginning and scored an unbeaten 69 runs off just 34 balls. Her innings included 11 fours and one six which completely shifted the momentum in India’s favor.
Easy victory to reach the target
Smriti Mandhana (14) and Jemimah Rodrigues (26) also made valuable contributions. Although Mandhana and Jemimah lost their wickets Shafali along with captain Harmanpreet Kaur guided the team to victory. India achieved the target in just 11.5 overs losing only 3 wickets.
