New Delhi: On Tuesday New Zealand Cricket unveiled its squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against India which is scheduled to be played in January. Regular captain Mitchell Santner has been rested for the three-match ODI series while former skipper Kane Williamson also been excluded. In Santners absence all-rounder Michael Bracewell will captain the side in the 50-over format. Matt Henry Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra have also been given a break from the ODI series as part of injury management. Several senior players have been recalled across both formats with a number of emerging talents also earning selection after impressive recent performances. Among them are Jayden Lennox Kristian Clarke Bevon Jacobs and Tim Robinson along with Michael Rae who made his debut in the second Test against the West Indies. Kyle Jamieson makes a comeback following his recovery Kyle Jamieson is included in both squads following his recovery while Mark Chapman and Matt Henry are set to return for the T20I series. The T20I leg of the tour will serve as New Zealands final chance to work on their combinations ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. The Kiwis are placed in Group D alongside South Africa Afghanistan Canada and the United Arab Emirates. Rob Walter on the importance of touring India Head coach Rob Walter stressed the importance of touring India at this point in the cycle saying that playing in spin-friendly conditions will be crucial for New Zealand’s World Cup plans. Playing in the sub-continent is obviously very different to what we’re used to in New Zealand so any opportunity we can get to expose our guys to those conditions can only be a good thing especially prior to a T20 World Cup in the subcontinent.
