This season of Vijay Hazare Trophy is in the news because superstar players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are going to enter it. Even before the innings of these players, India’s young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made himself the ‘centre of attraction’. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, playing for Bihar in the Arunachal Pradesh vs Bihar match on the first day of the season, scored his century in just 36 balls. He has reached second place in the list of Indian players in terms of scoring the fastest century in List A career.

In this match, Vaibhav played an inning of 190 runs and missed completing his double century. However, he has become the youngest player to score a List A career century. He has achieved this feat at the age of just 14 years and 272 days. Due to this, this record was in the name of Zahoor Ilahi. Zahoor scored a century against Railways in 1986 at the age of 15 years and 209 days.

In this match, Bihar won the toss against Arunachal Pradesh and decided to bat first. Mangal Mahrour was out after scoring only 33 runs. After that, Vaibhav Suryavanshi created a storm on the field. At Ranchi’s JSCA Oval Ground, Vaibhav Suryavanshi took notice of every bowler but in the end, Techi Doria finished Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s work by catching a shot played by Techi Neri.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s storm

Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a total of 84 balls in this match. Out of these 84, he hit fours on 16 balls and sixes on 15 balls. That means 90 runs were scored only with sixes and 64 runs were scored only with fours. In this way Vaibhav scored 154 runs out of 190 only from boundaries. Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s strike rate in this innings was only 226.19.

The effect of this explosive innings was that when Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out in the 27th over, Bihar’s score was 261 runs for 2 wickets. Vaibhav missed his double century but in terms of scoring 150 runs, he left behind players like AB de Villiers and Jos Buttler in the list. Vaibhav scored 150 runs in just 59 balls, whereas AB de Villiers did the same feat in 64 balls against West Indies and Jos Buttler did it in 65 balls against Netherlands.

List A record holder

The record of the fastest century in List A cricket in India is in the name of Punjab’s Anmol Preet Singh. Anmolpreet had scored a century in just 35 balls in the last season of Vijay Hazare Trophy. If we look at the list of players from all over the world, then at the forefront is Jake Fraser-Magarch who scored a century in just 29 balls and at second place is AB de Villiers who has the record of scoring a century in 31 balls.
