The ongoing edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy was supposed to be about the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. But it was Vaibhav Suryavanshi who stole the show vs Arunachal as he broke one record and almost broke another. The 14-year-old is proving to be the next big thing in Indian cricket.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s World Record

Vaibhav became the youngest to score a List A 100 at 14 years and 272 days. He reached his century in a mere 100 balls in the 12th over of Bihar’s innings. That meant he was striking at close to 300 runs per 100 balls. One could say he slowed down after that as the next 90 came in 48 balls which is a strike rate under 200.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Missing Another World Record

The southpaw finished with 190 from 84 balls. If he had scored another 10 runs and taken no more than 18 balls to do so, Vaibhav would have registered the record for the fastest ever List A 100 ever. The record is currently 103 balls by New Zealand's Chad Bowes which he achieved in 2024. Vaibhav nearly broke it. He did hit the fastest List A 150 (59 balls).

Could Vaibhav Suryavanshi Have Entered Uncharted Territory?

The explosive knock contained 16 fours and 15 sixes. When Vaibhav fell it was the 27th over and the team score was 261. That meant the teenager had scored over 70% of his team’s runs. Had he stayed till the end of the innings, a 300 was on the cards.
