The Indian stock market is trading strongly in the final days of the year, and millions of investors have maintained their positions in the market. However, please note that the stock market will be closed on December 25th for Christmas (Share Market Holiday), and a "sandwich session" will be observed in the market during this period. Therefore, new trades should be planned keeping the holidays in mind. According to the stock exchange's holiday calendar, the stock market will be closed on Thursday, December 25th, for Christmas.

After December 25th, the market will reopen on Friday, December 26th, and will then remain closed on Saturday and Sunday. The trading session between Thursday and Saturday-Sunday will be referred to as a "sandwich session."

Both Equity and Commodity Markets to Remain Closed
Trading in equities, equity derivatives, Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLBs), currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives will remain closed for the entire day on both the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The commodity derivatives segment will also remain closed for both the morning and evening sessions. Trading will resume on the BSE, NSE, and Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Friday, December 26th.

2026 Holiday List
Meanwhile, the NSE has released the list of trading holidays for 2026. The stock market will remain closed for a total of 15 days in the year, starting with Republic Day on January 26th. Four of these holidays fall on Saturdays or Sundays, when the market is already closed.

March will have the most holidays, with the market remaining closed for three days due to Holi (March 3rd), Shri Ram Navami (March 26th), and Shri Mahavir Jayanti (March 31st). There will be no effective market holidays in February, July, and August as the national holidays in these months fall on weekends. The stock exchange has announced that the Muhurat Trading session will be held on Sunday, November 8th.
