The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UP TET) 2025 has been officially postponed, creating uncertainty for more than 15 lakh candidates who were preparing to appear for the examination. The decision was taken by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), confirming that the exam scheduled for January 29 and 30, 2026, will no longer be held on those dates.
The announcement has come as a major setback for teaching aspirants across the state, especially since the UP TET was set to be conducted after a long gap of nearly four years.
According to official sources, the decision to postpone the UP TET was made during a recent meeting of the UPESSC chaired by its newly appointed chairman, former IPS officer Dr. Prashant. This was his first official meeting after assuming office.
During the meeting, the commission discussed the need to conduct all examinations in a clean, transparent, and well-organized manner. After reviewing the existing exam schedule, the commission decided to defer the UP TET 2025 due to administrative and technical reasons.
Officials clarified that the postponement is not a cancellation, but a temporary delay to ensure smoother coordination and better management of large-scale examinations in the state.
The UP TET holds significant importance for candidates aspiring to build a career in the teaching sector. The last UP TET examination was conducted on January 23, 2022. Since then, lakhs of aspirants have been waiting for the next opportunity to qualify for teaching posts in government and aided schools.
The announcement of UP TET 2025 had raised hopes among candidates, especially because qualifying this exam is mandatory for participating in future teacher recruitment drives in Uttar Pradesh. The postponement has therefore caused disappointment among aspirants who had been preparing intensively for the January 2026 exam.
More than 1.5 million candidates from across Uttar Pradesh had registered for the UP TET 2025 examination. The postponement has directly affected all of them, leaving their academic and career plans temporarily on hold.
Many candidates had structured their preparation schedules, taken leave from jobs, or postponed other competitive exams to focus solely on UP TET. With no revised date announced yet, aspirants are now facing uncertainty regarding how long they will have to wait.
The UPESSC has stated that it is currently reviewing the existing examination calendar to ensure better coordination with other recruitment bodies and examination agencies. The commission plans to analyze the schedules of pending exams such as UP TGT, PGT, and TET, and prepare a revised timetable accordingly.
Once this review process is completed, a new and consolidated exam calendar will be released. Only after that will the fresh dates for UP TET 2025 be officially announced.
Although the commission has not provided a fixed timeline, officials have indicated that the new UP TET 2025 schedule will be announced soon on the official website. Candidates are strongly advised to rely only on official notifications and avoid misinformation circulating on social media.
The revised dates, along with updates related to admit cards and exam centers, will be published exclusively on the commission’s official portal.
In the meantime, candidates are encouraged to:
Continue their exam preparation, especially core teaching concepts and subject knowledge
Regularly check the official website for updates
Avoid panic and misinformation
Use the additional time to strengthen weak areas and revise thoroughly
Given the massive competition, staying consistent with preparation will be crucial once the new dates are announced.
The postponement of UP TET 2025 has left more than 15 lakh aspirants waiting anxiously for clarity. While the delay has caused frustration, the commission maintains that the move is aimed at ensuring a fair, transparent, and well-managed examination process.
Candidates can expect the revised exam schedule to be released soon, and until then, staying patient and focused on preparation will be key. The UP TET remains a critical gateway for teaching careers in Uttar Pradesh, and aspirants should be ready whenever the new dates are announced.
