Delhi Police has busted a fake smartphone racket running in the city. Nakeel in Delhi Samsung Galaxy Phones were assembled and sold. Police have also arrested 4 accused in this operation in Karol Bagh area. This time the police have seized more than 500 fake Galaxy smartphones. According to the police, this racket was active for a long time and was used to cheat customers. The racket was targeting people who were looking for an opportunity to buy expensive flagship smartphones at very low prices.

How were fake Galaxy phones being created?

Investigation by the police revealed that the accused were sourcing important parts like motherboard, camera module, battery and phone frame from other countries including China. After this, with the help of these parts, smartphones were manufactured locally, which looked exactly like genuine Samsung Galaxy devices. How did the fake game begin?

To make the phone look real, the accused used to put a fake IMEI sticker on the phone, which said Made in Vietnam. This led consumers to believe that these phones were genuine imported Samsung devices and even escaped initial checks by telecom networks. But actually these smartphones were fake and were being used to cheat the customers.

When it comes to online platforms or retail stores, Samsung Galaxy Ultra and foldable phones are priced in lakhs of rupees. But consumers were getting a chance to buy fake smartphones manufactured by the accused at a price of Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000. Seeing this price, customers were buying smartphones with discounts and offers. But in fact consumers were falling victim to fake offers, where they were being cheated. Police say too-good-to-be-true prices were the racket’s biggest weapon.

The device seized by the police?

In the incident in Karol Bagh, police seized 512 fake Samsung Galaxy phones, hundreds of spare electronic parts, packaging materials, stickers and assembly tools. Four people have been arrested from the spot and their investigation is on. After all these cases it is very important to remember some important things while buying a smartphone.
