New Delhi:The festival of Christmas is celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm all over the world including India on 25th December. On this day, the atmosphere becomes devotional with grand decoration of churches, prayers and songs. Christmas is one of the most important festivals for the Christian community, which is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ.
On the occasion of Christmas, people give gifts to each other, share good wishes and spread the message of mutual love and brotherhood. A special significance of this day is also to forgiveness. People ask for forgiveness from Lord Jesus for their crimes and mistakes. In such a situation, the question arises that why is there a tradition of asking for forgiveness on Christmas?
According to Christian beliefs, the greatest gift a person can give is forgiveness. Lord Jesus Christ gave the message of love, mercy and forgiveness to the whole world through his life and teachings. His entire life is considered a symbol of sacrifice and compassion.
According to religious texts, even when Lord Jesus was crucified, he prayed for his persecutors. He had said, ‘Father, forgive them because they do not know what they are doing? I tell you the truth that today itself you will be with me in heaven. After this he said, O Father, I entrust my soul into your hands. Through these words, Jesus Christ gave the message that forgiveness is the only true religion.
It is believed that Lord Jesus Christ himself bore the burden of the sins of mankind and paid the price through his sacrifice. Due to this belief, on Christmas day people accept their sins, repent and pray for forgiveness from Lord Jesus, so that they can get mental peace and God’s grace.
Christmas is not limited only to asking for forgiveness from the Lord, but it also gives the message of forgiving, loving and serving others. Lord Jesus Christ gave these teachings to his followers.
According to the Bible, a person who accepts Lord Jesus as his Savior, honestly confesses his sins and repents with a true heart, his sins are forgiven by Lord Jesus. With this belief, people all over the world resolve to follow the path of forgiveness and compassion on Christmas day.
