Karkala: In an effort to ensure accurate results and systematic record-keeping in Kambala races, artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be used on a trial basis at this year’s Miyaru Kambala, with the support of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).
The Kambala event, scheduled to be held on January 3, will this year feature AI technology on an experimental basis along with the existing laser beam technology. MAHE will be responsible for the technological development and implementation.
The use of AI is aimed at precise time measurement of races, efficient maintenance of records, and other operational advantages. Based on the success of this trial, there are plans to extend the technology to Kambala events held at other locations as well.
Kambala organising committee general secretary Gunapala Kadamba said the initiative is expected to bring greater accuracy and transparency to the traditional sport.
